The map that is presented is a climate map, meaning that it is a map that shows the climate zones in the world. The climate differs from one area to another, and the reasons for that range from latitude, wind patterns, ocean currents, exposure to sunlight, topography, water bodies, etc.

The tropical climate types on this map are colored with green. They consist of tropical rainforests, dry tropical forests, and savanna, all being located close to the Equator.
The dry climate types are colored pale yellowish. They are found between the tropical and modearte climates, and their main characteristics are high temperatures and very little precipitation.
The moderate climate types are colored orange. They are located at the mid-latitudes, having relatively good amounts of precipitation and a mild climate.
The continental climate types are colored yellow. They are located in the interior of the continents at the mid-latitudes, having high temperatures in summer and very low in winter, as well as being drier than the moderate climates.
The polar climate types are colored with white. These climates are found around the poles. They are the coldest in the world and throughout the year the temperatures tend to be very low.
