For the democrats, the rust belt (Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin to some degree) are usually democratic strong holds. I would make just enough appearances there to remind them who I am.
Northern California is democratic as well. Southern California is a toss up.
The South used to be democratic as a bloc. It no longer is. I would focus on bringing them into the fold. If you can encourage a heavy turnout, your strategy might work. The poor are generally democratic.
Florida is a must win for either party. I'd pound the ground to make sure it remembers its roots. That state is not easy for either part.
New York usually votes democratic but it can be republican. Always remember what happened to Thomas Dewey who was supposed to beat Truman by a whole bunch. It didn't happen that way. It's an interesting read. Look it up.
Texas is another must win. You have to campaign hard there because the Republicans have a lot of influence.
