There are many alikes and differences between the two revolutions. The most common cause was "tension" between the two sides that fought for contrasting yet similar reasons. Colonists were trying to escape the rules from England, such as the South trying to pry itself from the North's laws. All the goals that the colonists were trying to acheive were for all their representation, not discluding any peers. The South however were using their objectives to intentionally continue the crimes  and free labor against african americans, not for their own freedom.
