According to the Wikipedia source Prewriting can consist of a combination of outlining, diagramming, storyboarding, clustering (for a technique similar to clustering, see mindmapping).

So a first draft is NOT pre-writing, nor is a paragraph. The list of words is just one way to create ideas.

The purpose of prewriting is allowing the writer to generate ideas about the topic and its audience. For doing so, the process of prewriting allows the writer to focus on his/her topic by means of different prewriting techniques, such as: brainstorming, freewriting, list making, looping, outlining and asking questions among others. The next step will be evaluating as well as organizing the ideas according to a clear purpose for going on writing.
