Which event is the climax of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass?
A: Douglass escapes to freedom in the North and changes his name.
B: Douglass marries Anna, a free black woman.
C: Douglass begins working and no longer has to give his wages to a slave master.
D: Douglass stands up to Covey and is surprised that Covey doesn't fight back.
I think: A

Respuesta :

I would say that Douglass after suffering deeply as a slave is able to escape to the North and change his name and thus free himself from very abusive inhumane treatment and his recounting of his tough experiences inspires the abolitionists to gain strength.

It could be said that the climax of Douglass story is option D (Douglass stands up to Covey and is surprised that Covey doesn´t fight back) because this is a turning point in the story. From this moment onwards, his life is going to change .The he is hired by Freeland and he starts educating other slaves, he scapes and gets married and finally he ends up as a lecturer.
