1. they had many railroads to get them around faster/ deliver supplies to troops faster

2. had most of the natural resources like coal iron and gold

3. Had alot of industry/factories to build supplies

union disadvantaged

1. they were unfamiliar with most of the land they were invading

2.if they went into the southern area their weren't many railroads to get them supplies down there

3. they would have to cover a lg. area of land

confederacy disadvantaged

1. Didnt have a lot of industry

1. had some of the best military leaders fighting for them
