Therefore,

x + y = 38

x = 38 - y ------- eqn 1

Total of 188 people

Therefore,

6x + 4y = 188 ------ eqn 2

Substitute eqn 1 in eqn 2

6(38 - y) + 4y = 188

228 - 6y + 4y = 188

2y = 40

y = 20

Substitute y = 20 in eqn 1

x = 38 - 20

x = 18

Thus there are 18 tables and 20 booths are at the restaurant
