Most short stories:
introduce few characters (because there is not enough space to have many of them)
have a single plot (rather than a complex, multi-threaded one)
limit descriptions (rather than giving full descriptions)
plunge quickly into action (rather than having long, drawn-out introductions)
They usually do not: spend time developing at least one minor character (only major ones are developed), or give a full description of each setting.
