During mitosis at the metaphase stage, the kinetochore pull the sister chromatids till it allign to the equator of the cell, called equator plane. There is a checkpoint at the middle of the metaphase called metaphase checkpoint which make sure the cells is ready to undergo division. When mutation occurs in mitosis, it is irreversible and it's is passed on to daughter cells. Mutation at metaphase stage cause the cell not to produce normal protein kinases to the metaphase checkpoint which make the cell not to be able to leave the metaphase.
