Determine the equilibrium pH and speciation (concentration of each species) of the following two solutions. Neglect activity corrections. Species added Total concentration (solution

a) HCl 10-3 M (solution
b) NaCl 10-3 M

You must solve this problem in the following manner:

derive the polynomial equations with [H ] as master variable and solve by hand or with the Excel solver function or by other programming software. (Matlab?).
You will need to look up the K value for HCl dissociation (which is called Ka). There is no K for NaCl dissolution (just assume complete dissociation, as you would do for all Na+ salts).
