Mountains and plateaus in the west side of china would not enable the ancient people to live there as many Chinese settled only in the eastern china because the soil is fertile. It is also isolated from mountains and deserts from the rest of Asia.
These mountain ranges also prove to be the natural defense from military assaults and also traders and other intruders felt difficult to enter the borders of china because of its rugged terrain. Eastern china is fertile as yellow river basin makes the land fertile and the growth of green crops is easy which help the survival of the ancient Chinese.
