Aristide Boucicaut, French entrepreneur and creator of the world's first modern department store, Le Bon Marche, was known in his life for his many innovations to marketing. For example, he introduced "reading rooms" for husbands whose wives were busy shopping in his store. In 1867, he introduced the first ever mail-order catalog. He also was known as a trailblazer in social settings as well. For example, he hired many women, which was relatively unheard of at the time. He also provided housing for his employees that were unmarried females. He also offered his employees the chance to advance through the company, all the way up to department manager. Hope this helps.
