The geographic distribution of the swimming reptile mesosaurus provides evidence that america and africa were once joined.
At the beginning of times, the world was not distributed as it is now. There existed a supercontinent called Pangea. It joined from earlier continental units approximately 335 million years ago, and it began to break apart about 175 million years ago. As opposed to the present Earth and its distribution of continental mass, much of Pangaea was in the southern hemisphere and surrounded by a superocean, Panthalassa. So that, there was a time in which america and africa were joined.
