Lipids

Lipid molecules are incorporated in the plasma membrane as part of the phospholipid bilayer, which has a polar and non-polar end. Lipid molecules are also stored in cells and are more commonly known as fat then. Fat serves as an energy store and insulates organisms from the cold. Glycolipids are molecules found on the surface of cells and help in communication.

The molecule that can be used by cells to perform functions like storing energy, forming biological membranes, and serving as chemical messengers is lipid molecule.

Further Explanation:

Lipids are the molecules which has the property to dissolve in non-polar or organic solvent but not in polar solvent. Every cell in an organism is made up of lipid bilayer. According to the fluid mosaic model an amphipathic lipid molecules are present in the cell membrane.

Lipids are made up of fatty acids linked together by the ester linkage. These fatty acids can be saturated or unsaturated. Oils, waxes and fat can be the examples of the lipid molecules

Triacylglycerol are known to be the highly concentrated stores of metabolic energy ads they are reduced and anhydrous.

The energy yield from the complete oxidation of fatty acid is higher than from the carbohydrate and protein synthesis.

Lipid also act as the chemical messenger as it acts as the intracellular second messenger and are involved in signal transduction. Lipids such as diacylglycerol and triphosphoinositol act as the second messenger that transduces the signal to the downstream protein molecule. The message finally reaches the nucleus where they changes the transcriptional events of certain proteins.
