The salary of college coaches compared to professors, presidents of the college, and even government officials is a controversial topic. According to a study at the University of Kentucky by Washington Post, in 2016 every athletic head coach was paid more than the highest-earning professor. Further, the Huffington Post stated, "between 2005 and 2012 the average salary of head football coaches at the top 25 football schools increased over 60 percent, while the average college spending on academics per student dropped by two percent." (Zimbalist, 2014) These statistical figures create speculation and concern.
