They said the computer bug would cause havoc all around the world in computers and computer networks.

The Y2K bug ( the Millenium bug ), happened based on the assumption that computers would not be able to recognize the two 00 digits as part of the year 2000. This would lead to using incorrect data in various  IT operating systems all over the world.

It was claimed that the bug would cause the failure of software and hardware, causing a massive disruption everywhere. Airports, hospitals, banks, government services, all would close down because of that bug.
