A barbecue sold 26 hamburgers and hot dogs. Hamburgers sell for $3.50 each and hot dogs sell for $2.00 each. If the barbecue made $70 in sales, determine and state the number of hot dogs sold.

x + y = 26

3.5x + 2y = 70


-2x - 2y = -52

3.5x + 2y = 70

1.5x = 18

x = 18 / 1.5 = 12

y = 26 - 12 = 14


They sold 12 hamburgers and 14 hot dogs
