Potential electrolyte imbalance that might occur after the transurethral resection of the prostate (turp) is the imbalance of sodium ion- hyponatraemia.
The potential complication of a transurethral resection of the prostate surgery can occur as a consequence of the absorption into the prostatic venous sinuses of the fluids that are used to irrigate the bladder during the intervention. This can result in fluid overload, disturbed electrolyte balance and hyponatraemia (low levels of sodium due to diluted serum).
