Meiotic division or meiosis is the process of cell division by which reproductive cells (gametes) are formed. This division process that takes us from a diploid cell—one with two sets of chromosomes—to haploid cells—ones with a single set of chromosomes. Meiosis begins with 2 parent cells and produces 4 daughter cells. A meiotic division produces 4 daughter cells.
