For question 1. One setting is Dorothy's home in Kansas. It is mentioned that Dorothy and Toto are brought in the land of Oz. The second setting is the land of Oz itself. Dorothy wants to go home and is brought in on an adventure to get home, meeting friends along the way.

For question 2. The tinman wants a heart. It is said the wicked witch cursed him to become a tin.The scarecrow wants a brain. He wants a brain because he believes he is mindless. Dorothy wants to get back home. So she follows the yellow brick road and makes friends on the way to the wizard.

For question 3 a life lesson the characters learn is to face his fears. The cowardly lion learns that the whole time he thought he was a little coward h actually wasn't. Although he wanted courage he learned in the end he wasn't so cowardly at all.
