Answer
in 1958 Henry Lardy have reported that Oligomycin is a potent inhibitor of ATP synthase. Oligomycin is a non competitive inhibitor that block the ATP synthase geometry and adversly affect the ATP synthesis.
Structure of ATP synthase
ATP synthase is an integral membrane protein mitochondrial membrane. The structure of ATP synthase protein is composed of: F0 particle, and F1 particle. F1 particle contain active site for ATP synthase, while F0 particle help in attachment with oligomycin
Effect on chemiosmotic process
Chemisomotic ATP synthesis is adversely affected as result of blocking of channel proteins by oligomycin, because proton can not move against their concentration gradient. It also reduce the flow of electron during electron transport chain.
