The lucy is the fossil of a female belonging to the species Australopithecus afarensis. The Lucy was a fossil of female hominin, the sex of the fossil was determined by studying the structure of the pelvic bones, which was somehow similar to that of modern human females. Hundreds of bone was discovered, which together make up the 40% of the body.
All the fossils, which are similar to this skeleton are thought to be from same genus, that is Australophithecus.
