Moral standards are a code of ethics people adhere to. They are innate but also learned. They allow us to make decisions based on what we know to be right or wrong for ourselves and others and are generally based around our ability to feel empathy. If we disengage from these moral standards then all of the above will take place. A good example of people who display typical disengagement of moral standards are those with narcissistic personality disorder.
