Ancient warfare is the type of war that went on from the beginning of recorded history (writing), to the end of the ancient period (500 AD-period).
Warfare during ancient history could be now considered brutal. They were highly organized armies that formed thanks to the development of first-city states, being able to produce sufficient agricultural surplus. The weapons mainly used were bows and spears.
These armies helped states grow bigger in size. They would destroy and conquer new cities, and as a result of this, they would enslave the remaining citizens of the defeated city.
Enslavement is what the laments turned around. Basically the loss of liberty can be considered the dearest and most important attribute of life. Seeing one's city be destroyed, people being massacred, women being raped, and then finally being enslave is mainly what the citizens lamented the most. Our culture is a fundamental attribute, once its destroyed, we lose part of who we are.
