This is a perfect example of checks and balances. Within our government, all three branches of the federal government have the power to check the power of another branch. In this example, the executive branch (aka president) checks the power of the legislative branch (aka Congress) by stopping a bill from becoming a law. After this, the legislative branch then checks the power of the executive branch by overruling the presidents veto with a 2/3 majority vote in both the House and Senate.
