If I was writing an essay about the extinction of animals, I would begin with:
Humans have not always been on the top of the food chain. We have had to crawl our way up the path killing anything in our path to detemine our own servival even if it means distroying whole species such as the dodo bird. Humans are the biggest threat that species have today.
You are not allowed to use what I wrote, however you can write your own thesis based off of it. I would discuss how humans have evolved to become hunter/gatherers by killing other animals to the point of extinction. Make sure to give examples like the Dodo, or the fur seal, in your essay's main paragraphs.
