The short term effects of the Vietnamese war was the death and injury of millions of people. It is estimated that over 2million civilians lives were lost. Also, during the war hunger, starvation and misery befell millions of civilian. Some of the long term effects were that South Vietnam fell into the hands of the North Vietnam communist regime. In the USA, there was a period of reflections following the death of thousands of USA troops(58,000) and the immature exit from Vietnam, which culminated in the Powell doctrine.
