The seed drill had an influential effect in the growth of farming technologies and increased productivity which provided raw materials necessary for industrial revolution. The seed drill gave farmers much greater control over the depth that the seed is planted and the ability to cover the seeds without back-tracking. The result is an increased yield.
The Seed Drill was invented by Jethro Tull, around 1701. The Seed Drill planted seeds at regular intervals and planted them in the right depth and also covered them with the earth. This is known as the Agricultural Revolution, because before the machine people had to plant seeds by hand, which took much time and effort. Less seed was wasted, the crop grew in rows and was easier to harvest.
The Agricultural revolution that was pushed by the Seed Drill helped the growth of the population in England and Wales from 5.5 to 9 million. It also helped with industrialization since fewer people were needed in agriculture.
